Although Ralph Hotere is one of New Zealand's best known and most loved artists his work had never been shown in his own country, the Hokianga, until 2009. As a fourth birthday celebration the Village Arts Gallery welcomed him home. The exhibition "Hotere Country" invited five local artists to respond to Hotere's own work "The Song of Solomon".
