David Spero: Settlements Print E-mail
ImageFrom 2002 to 2005 British photographer David Spero explored the relationship between architectural structures and ideological beliefs.

ImageHe focused on those which are self-built by communities wanting to live on the land in a sustainable way.

ImageTheir aim is to minimise their ecological footprint.

Image The structures are hardly visible, camoflaged in the rich and dense foliage which surrounds them.

ImageAn exhibtion of David Spero's photographs was held at the Photographers' Gallery. 5 Great Newport Street, London, from 2 December 2005 to 5 February 2006. For more information on the gallery visit www.photonet.org.uk

More than half a million people visited the gallery in 2004. Some of them were almost certainly architects.
