It was a spiritual journey through time and place. Kotuiti was the first waka taua to paddle up the Tamaki Estuary since the 1840s. Ngati Paoa had signed the Treaty of Waitangi at Karaka Bay in 1840. With haka and waiata Ngati Paoa once again made Karaka Bay their own.

On Sunday 28 August 2011 Kotuiti, the Ngati Paoa waka, was paddled from Kaiaua to Karaka Bay.
