There are seven apartments in the excellent building at 349 Tamaki Drive. It is about to be demolished and replaced by one of those Unitary Plan development blocks, with only two luxury apartments. There will not only be a dramatic decrease in density. Five families will also join the long queue trying to find somewhere else to live.

If Auckland Council is serious about increasing density they only need to prevent yet another built-environment resource being sent off to landfill.

Protecting heritage can also mean protecting density.
